Chakra Bracelet Commission
Chakra Bracelet Commission
A wonderfully supportive customer asked me to create a chakra bracelet for her, and when I asked what stones she would like, her reply was "I'll leave it up to you".
Commissions have the advantage of the customer creating a piece of jewellery that is personally yours.
Every aspect of the piece can be bespoke to your needs and requirements, which can have its advantages and challenges.
As a designer my creative process is very fluid and flexible, and since I started making jewellery, I have been wearing less jewellery, with bracelets being now non existent!!!
I have a rule, if I don't wear it I don't make it, as I have to understand the mechanics of the jewellery on the body.
As to chakra bracelets, in the past I have never made them as they seem to be ubiquitous especially within the Mind, Body and Spirit space, so this commission although not hard was going to be challenging especially as the customer didn't give any direction and/or preference to the stones.
Where do I start?
Working through the chakras, I started with the Crown chakra, looking for a white stone, I had the choice of Selenite and Quartz, I wanted this to be the focal point of the bracelet.
I knen that this customers birthday falls in April, the birthstone is quartz, wanting to bling this bracelet up, I chose a 10mm cracked quartz bead, which sparkles when the light hits it:
Now to select the stones for the rest of the bracelet.
Knowing that the customer would want to wear this bracelet on a regular/daily basis, I thought about all the gemstone earrings and rings that she had brought from me over the years, and I wanted to use stones that are not traditionally added to the chakra bracelet.
For the 3rd Eye Chakra I selected Garnet and Lapis Lazuli for the Throat Chakra, a favourite stone of my customer:
For the Heart Chakra I selected Rose Quartz and Malachite for the Solar Plexus Chakra:
Usually Carnelian would be the stone for the Sacral Chakra, but when checking my sales records, the customer had never brought earrings in this stone, at ths point the bracelet was looking pretty dark, and I knew that the stone for the Base Chakra would be black or brown, so I selected Citrine:
With so many options for the Base Chakra, I settled on Black Tourmaline, as I knew she had a couple pair of earrings with this stone.
With all commissions I'm always nervous when the final piece was delivered to the customer, even more so with this bespoke bracelet, as I had designed it purely with intuition and knowledge of the customer, but did I get it right?
The customer absolutely loved it along with the intention of the stones selected, showing it off and telling everyone around her about it, she promptly ordered a matching necklace.
Interestingly, the customer brought a pair of ombre stacked Carnelian earrings.
Will I add Carnelian to this new commission?
What do you think?
