Fordite, Detroit Agate or Motor City Agate, is a rare handmade material consisting of layers of automotive paint that has built up over decades in car factory spray booths, orginally from the Ford plants, but over the years Fordite is the generical name for any car paint derived material.

What are the different types of Fordite?

There are 4 types of Fordite, based on the organnic pattern that the layers formed and the composition of the paint layers:
 

Separated Colours Regular grey banding of primer between the differentlayers of paint	Opaques and Metallic Colour on limited colours, in small parts and special runs
Drippy or Striped Layers of multiple colour on colour with metallics, sometimes forming lace and orbital patterns, with occasional surface channeling	Bleeding Opaques and Metallics Layers of bleeding colour on colour formations, sometimes containing pitting from the presence of air bubbles as the over spray paint layers form and harden.
