Fordite Jewellery - Wear a Piece of Automotive History

What is Fordite?

Fordite, also known as Detroit Agate or Motor City Agate, is a rare handmade material made from layers of automotive paint that has built up over decades in car factory spray booths, orginally from the Ford plants, but over the years Fordite is the generical name for any car paint derived material.

After a period of time, the spray paint booth is cleaned up, resulting in the layers of waste paint drips being scrapped off the floor and/or other surfaces and sold off as slabs.

Handcrafted and Sterling Silver Settings

Lapidiarists around the world purchase these slabs, cuts and polishes them into theses gorgeously stunning cabochons exposing their naturally and organically formed mesmerising patterns of pearlescent paint layers.

Each piece in my Fordite Jewellery Collection is handcrafted using traditional metalsmith techniques and set in fine and sterling silver to highlight its vivid swirls, stripes and pearlescent hues, combining modern craftmenshi with industrial heritage offering both style and substance.

Fordite pendants, rings, earrings and offer a truly distinctive alternative to natural gemstones, perfect for as a collectible, statement piece or meaningful gift.

History Meets Style

Fordite originally came from the Ford auto plants in Detroit, where car factory spray booths created thick paint deposits, over the years alot of the Fordite is sourced from other car manufacturers including Chrysler/Dodge, Harley Davies, Kenworth and Jeep, but today due to modern electrostatic paint systems reducing the amount of overspray, high quality Fordite is becoming rarer, adding to its collectibility and story value of each piece.

Once considered industrial waste, Fordite has become fashionable by being upcycled into stunning one of a kind pieces of wearable art, consisting of vibrant colour layers and unique organic patterns, that will never be replicated.
